Democracy is a form of government wherein the people or citizens of a country have the right to choose their rulers and make decisions about their country. It is based on the principle of majority rule, wherein the majority of the people decide on the policies of the state. The citizens also have the power to elect their representatives who will represent their interests in the government. In a democracy, the citizens have the freedom to express their views, opinions, and criticism.

Republic is a form of government wherein the citizens of the country are granted certain rights and duties. Unlike democracy, the citizens do not have the right to choose their rulers. Instead, they are governed by elected representatives. The representatives are chosen by the people, but they are not directly answerable to the citizens. In a republic, the citizens have limited freedom of expression and the government has more control over the laws and policies of the state.
